Wow! A Visualization of Ocean Currents by NASA



Given how much time I've spent trying to optimize passage times worldwide, I find this video to be amazing.

I've traveled the U.S. East Coast and transited the N. Atlantic many times so The Gulf Stream behaves much like I'd expect. However having rounded The Cape of Good Hope only a few times I was surprised to see the behavior of the Agulhas Current. Look at those  big eddies coming of the tip of S. Africa!

While the weather routing program I use now is a big improvement over using the old pilot charts, understanding the the behavior of a current would be much easier with this type of presentation
