Col John Boyd's OODA Loop - Some links

The OODA Loop is a model of how humans  perceive, comprehend and act in response to their environment to achieve their goals.

I was reading some background about how Boyd first developed the OODA loop and I realized it was not about an individual fighter pilot but the pilot and the aircraft, in other words, a system.

Adding the word "system" as a search term turned up this article which is one of the best I've ever read;

Why The OODA Loop Is Forever

From that article:
"Taking this system’s view of the OODA loop, the true vision of John Boyd begins to emerge. The concept now applies to every level of military command, from a fire team through a field army."

Change "fire team" to "bridge team" and "field army" to "company" (or whatever) and it works both on the bridge or including the both the bridge and the engine room and so on.

Here's another very good post which takes on the meme qualities of the loop

This one is interesting, includes a list a books Boyd had annotated

I plan another post (or two) about the OODA loop at some point.
